Today’s presenter is Larry Black, Defensive Line Coach at the University of Toledo
Larry Black is in his first season as the Rockets’ defensive line coach.
Black, who previously served as a graduate assistant at Toledo for the 2016 and 2017 seasons, spent 2018 as a graduate assistant with College Football Playoff participant Notre Dame.
Black spent last season working with the Fighting Irish defensive line under assistant coach Mike Elston. Under their tutelage, senior defensive lineman Jerry Tillery was named an All-American by multiple outlets, recording 13.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, and three forced fumbles. Tillery was selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the LA Chargers. Notre Dame ranked 13th in the country last season in scoring defense, allowing just 18.2 points per game.
The purpose of this post is not to say that you should do the drills exactly as they do, but that they hopefully will give you some ideas for drills to use to teach and rehearse your coaching points for your team.
