The video covers the first two components with multiple game examples.
- Tracking
- Maintaining proper leverage relative to the ball carrier (inside-out or outside-in)
- Never let the ball cross the defender’s nose
- Using sidelines as an additional defender
- Reestablishing leverage if lost
- Preparing
- Square view: Use two feet when directly facing the ball carrier
- Side view: Most common (80%+ of tackles), use near foot/shoulder technique
- Defenders should get their foot “in the circle” of the ball carrier to avoid lunging
- Run-through vs. swoop technique based on the distance to the ball carrier
