Multiple Coverage Adjustments vs 3 by 1 (10 Personnel) Part 2

Responsibility – MEG #1, Man Everywhere he Goes.

Responsibility – Read ¼’s on #3 & #2 – The Whip will take any 1st to flat route of #2 & #3 and   carry the wheel.  If #2 releases inside, the Whip will find #3.  If #3 is not a threat to the   outside, the Whip will hold the curl and look inside for crossers.  If #3 does expand under 10   yards, the Whip will cover him.  Any route after 10 yards belongs to the FS.  If both #2 & #3   release vertical, the Whip will carry the vertical of #2 from outside and overtop.

Responsibility – Read ¼’s on #3 & #2 – If #3 releases inside and underneath the linebackers, the   FS   will bracket the #2 WR with the Whip from inside.  If #3 WR releases vertical past LB depth, the FS   will play #3 from inside/out.  If #3 releases to the flat, the FS will play inside and overtop of the #2   WR.

Responsibility – Pattern Read #3 to #2 and Mike is a Final 3 Hook Player – play hook from   inside/out.  Mike also has a 5 yard no cover rule meaning anything under 5 yards of depth he will let it go.

Responsibility – Back To:  Final 2 Carry Player – If the RB releases vertical out of the backfield the   Backer must carry him.  Back Away: #4 to 1st Cross Player.  Backer also has a 5 yard no cover rule   meaning anything under 5 yards of depth he will let go.

Responsibility – Flat Player – Prowl to an overhand alignment (4/4 from the OT)  and play inside and   underneath #1 WR, deny the slant, curl, and dig.  Undercut all outside breaking routes.

Responsibility – Robber 1/2 – Pre-snap the BC will bail to 8 yards deep and 2 to 3 yards inside the   #1 WR.  The BC is responsible for the post, the vertical, and playing top down on all routes in front of   him.

Responsibility – Deep Outside 1/3 – Pre-snap bail to 8 yards deep, 2 yards inside the #1 WR.

Responsibility – Landmark Curl to Flat Player – The Whip must see the release of the #2 WR.  On an   outside release by #2, the Whip will expand to the curl.  On a vertical release by #2, the Whip will   disrupt and deliver him to the FS from inside after 12 yards.  On an inside/shallow release, the Whip   will get depth, settle, and stay square in the curl.

Responsibility – Landmark Hook to Curl Player – Pre-snap the FS will prowl to LB depth and   change his leverage to inside the #3 WR.  If #3 releases inside and underneath the linebackers, the   FS will hold the hook area and look for his new #3 without expanding inside or out.  If #3 WR   releases vertical, the FS must disrupt the route from inside out (SPLASH #3) and deliver him to the SS   after 10 yards.  If #3 releases to the flat, the FS will give a push call to the Whip telling him he can   expand to the flat, while the FS expands to the curl.

Responsibility – Landmark Drop Final 2 Curl to Flat Player – Backer’s threats are RB, #1 WR to his   side or the first crosser from the field.  Backer must pattern read off these threats and play curl to   flat from inside/out.  Backer also has a 5 yard no cover rule meaning anything under 5 yards of   depth he will let go.

Responsibility – Deep Middle 1/3 – Pre-snap bail to 14 yards deep – If the ball is in the middle, split   the offensive formation.  If the ball is on the hash, SS must get over the field side Offensive Tackle   for good spacing.

Responsibility – Deep Outside 1/3 – Pre-snap bail to 8 yards deep, 2 yards inside the #1 WR.

Responsibility – Landmark Curl to Flat Player – The Whip must see the release of the #2 WR.  On an   outside release by #2, the Whip will expand to the curl.  On a vertical release by #2, the Whip will   disrupt and deliver him to the FS from inside/out after 12 yards.  On an inside/shallow release, the   Whip will get depth, settle, and stay square in the curl.

Responsibility – Deep Outside 1/3 – Pre-snap bail to 14 yards deep – 3 yards inside the #1 WR.    Must maintain vertical leverage on all routes and play from top-down.

Responsibility – Hard Cover 2 = Jam & Funnel #1 WR, Flat player.  With direct safety help over the   top FC can be really aggressive on his jam and on any quick game routes – slants, quick outs.

Responsibility – Landmark Final 2 Curl Player – The Whip must see the release of the #2 WR.  On an   outside release by #2, the Whip will maintain the curl.  On a vertical release by #2, the Whip will   disrupt and deliver him to the FS from inside/out after 12 yards.  On an inside/shallow release, the   Whip will get depth, settle, and stay square in the curl.

Responsibility – Deep Outside 1/3 – Pre-snap bail to 14 yards deep and midpoint the #1 and #2 WR.    Must be able to see both #1 and #2 WR and maintain vertical leverage on all routes in your 1/3 –   play from top-down.

Responsibility – Landmark Final 3 Hook Player.  Mike’s threats are #3 and the RB.  Mike must   pattern read off #3 and RB and play the hook from inside/out.  Mike also has a 5 yard no   cover rule meaning anything under 5 yards of depth he will let it go.

Responsibility – Landmark Drop Final 2 Match Player – Backer must pattern read and find his #2 WR   and match his routes if he releases or enters the boundary side.  On a shallow cross from the field   the Backer must match the route.  The 5 yard no cover rule only applies if the shallow cross comes   from the boundary side.

Responsibility – Deep Middle 1/3 – Pre-snap bail to 14 yards deep – If the ball is in the middle, split   the offensive formation.  If the ball is on the hash, SS must get over the field side Offensive Tackle   for good spacing.

Responsibility – Ice Man Technique = BC will play catch man-to-man on all vertical, vertical bend,   and outside releases.  On any shallow inside release, the BC will shadow over top and zone off once   the route enters the box.  BC must get depth and look across the field for any intermediate drag or   deep crossing routes once the shallow declares across the field.
