BASE RUN GAME WHITEBOARD INTRODUCTION
Coach Mazzone begins his presentation with the use of a whiteboard to explain how he installs Zone Read. First of all, coach shares how they call plays and direction using code words and a numbering system. Coach with the use of the whiteboard illustrates and discusses his approach to blocking Zone Read and the technique that is incorporated into the scheme and the use of what coach Calls the “Thru” block on the backside of the play. Coach shares how the running back is inserted into zone read and how he is instructed to find daylight thru “A” or “B” gaps. Coach presents the installation of the zone read running play versus a “Over” and “Under” front and attacking a 1 or 3 technique. Coach takes you through the use of “Tags” in order to make adjustments in order to attack different defensive schemes which are used as answers to a problem.
