Coach Carter begins speaking about the passion it takes for running a 4-3 scheme and the “Corner Stones” for 1st and 2nd down and stopping the run and playing good zone pass defense. Also, best case scenarios when running a 4-3 defense is having four down linemen that can rush the passer well enough that you don’t have to bring a lot of pressure. Coach talks about his approach first and that is to defend the middle of the field first and then work on game planning appropriate calls to defend opponent’s tendencies. Coach talks on the fact you must always have a plan for defending the red zone and that it must be simple and efficient. When designing any defense coach mentions the following attributes that a defense must be known for is discipline and being relentless and competes for 4 quarters.
