Coach Giles filmed this clinic when he was the defensive run game coordinator at Wyoming.

We have listed some of our takeaways from the lesson below the video.

The ABCs of Defensive Line Fundamentals

Agility: Movement for the position.
Blow Delivery: Block protection for the position.
Contact: Tackling for the position

The explosion for the get off comes from head, hands, hips, then feet.

Your drills should mirror your installation for the day.

You can teach effort in practice and drills and it will show in a game.  Effort is not a given.

Have an ending spot for your drills so that your players will develop the habit of running through the ball.

Run Progression

  • Stance
  • Alignment/Assignment
  • Ball Get Off (BGO)
  • V of the neck/hand Placement (BGO)
