February 16, 2017 by

The presenter is Coach John Thompson:  Coach Thompson has had several stops during his coaching career. At the time this video was made, he was the Georgia State Defensive Coordinator.

Advantages and Principles of the 3-3 (Gator) Defense

Starts with the position player the “Gator”

  1. Puts more speed on the field for maximum cover or pressure.  You have another linebacker or another safety.
  2. It allows you to align in multiple fronts and coverages
    3/4/5/6/7 Man Fronts
    5/6/8/9 Man Covers
  3. You have an extra player (the Gator) for adjustments to formations
  4. It’s a great disguise package
  5. Fun to Play
  6. You can use it to show and run different defenses while still teaching the same principles for each.
