To be effective at Twist pickup, you must understand the situation. When is it that they will twist? Some common situations are second and long, third and medium to third and long, 2 minute situations in the half.
The second thing to spot twist situations is the alignment. Are they in twist alignment? Each offensive lineman must recognize whether or not he has help.
The key to stopping a twist is to step #1–that is stop the penetrator in the twist. If you don’t stop #1, it doesn’t matter if you stop the looper because #1 is going to affect the entire play.
