March 14, 2024 by

This article was originally posted on the Glazier Coaching Blog.

“The Pros & Cons of a Product, Dontation, or Hybrid Fundraiser” is a part of Fundraising Academy.  The video is one of a series in Fundraising Academy (Powered by InstaRaise) in Glazier Drive.

There are 3 types of non event fundraisers:  Straight donation request, product sale/catalog, or a combination of the two (hybrid fundraiser).

Pros of a donation fundraiser:

  • Easy and straightforward to set up.
  • An online donation fundraiser allows athletes to reach out beyond the local community.

Cons of a donation fundraiser:

  • People who donate may want something in return.
  • There is potential donor burnout if an individual is asked multiple times.

Pros and cons of a product sale fundraiser

(Note: Product sale fundraisers should be completly online)

Pros of a product sale fundraiser

  • All payments are handled by software.
  • You can offer a range of products to potential supporters.
  • Supporters receive something tangible in return for their money
  • Costs are set per sale and you know how much you will receive per sale. Makes it easier to establish goals.

Cons of a product sale fundraiser

  • Supporters may not need or want what you are selling.
  • Dealing with delivery of the products you sold can be a hassle.

Pros of a hybrid fundraiser

  • Combines simplicity of donations with the appeal of product sales
  • Alllows flexibility as you work toward your fundraising goals
